Cabinet of Wonder:
A Queer's Dialogue Between the Grotesque,  the Curious and the Mundane

Picture
installation view Vermont College of Fine Art, 2011
Grotesque Art and Cabinet of Curiosities trade on fascination with the unfamiliar, the unusual and the unnatural. In this installation I re-cast the grotesque to signify cultural attitudes over the centuries that have articulated the relationship between monstrosity and same-sex desire. In conversation with the Wall of Grotesques is a Cabinet of Curiosities. Collectors of the traditional cabinets endeavored to create order in a chaotic world. This cabinet enacts a revisionist history by framing and containing artifacts of queer life together with the mundane.
